iPhone Dev Team are reporting this in their latest blog update:
GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
Read item 1 again and again.
At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
These are suitable for the recent 2.2 release.
Please readallparts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
The ‘late 2008’ MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode, it is possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> 2.2 but going from stock to Pwned does not work, if in any doubt use a different machine.
Choosing the correct tool is crucial. Be warned!
NOTE:‘Simple Mode’ in PwnageTool currently only works for the iPod Touch. To use PwnageToolforiPhonesyou will need to use ‘Expert mode’.This is a workaround while we make an update and fix this issue. In order to do this you will need to navigate to the ‘General’ window and change two things: Deselect ‘activate’ ONLY if you are normally able to activate through iTunes (but if you wish to ‘hacktivate’ the iPhone using PwnageTool then leave it selected). You will also need to change the partition size to about 1000MB (type in the value or use the slider).
‘Hactivate’ means to activate the iPhoneyourselfwithout Apple. This is used if you live outside an officially supported region and cannot activate the phone using iTunes.

Mobispine, the developer of iPhone app, RSS News Reader has announced that they have developed an iPhone app which will bring the much awaited MMS feature to the iPhone. Mobispine is offering a white-labeling solution to carriers where they will brand their true MMS application for each carrier and distribute it via the App Store so that they can deliver the MMS feature to their iPhone customers. An upcoming game has piqued our interest. We could call it a Puzzloop clone, but its really quite different, and actually a lot more polished. Use your multiple cannons to match 3 balls or more at a time (in a Puzzloop style) however, you’ve got two cannons and it works quite well. We love the surround graphics, it’s really well designed, and much more reminiscent of a video game from a big console. It feels like a full game, and that, we feel is something lacking at the moment on the iPhone.
AT&T Mobility CED, Ralph De La Vega, has recently announced the arrival of the tethering plans for the iPhone. We all knew that AT&T has been working with Apple to bring an official tethering plan to iPhone customers, but no previous details have been leaked.
AT&T has always done their best to bring customers what they want in a cellular service, iPhone owners have been asking for a tethering plan for over a year not but AT&T could not deliver because of the network. Ralph De La Vega said, “Regardless of how many billions of dollars AT&T pours into their 3G network, it hasn’t been stable enough to handle all you iPhone users,” AT&T is simply worried as to how well the network will hold up to millions of users all jumping on at one time.
They have never has such an issue because there has never been such a huge rush in data use in their history. There is still no word on an official launch date. Here are the details on the iPhone tethering plans:
5GB Data Cap (just like Blackberry users) - AT&T will automatically turn off your tethering connection if you use too much bandwidth. Of note, the 5GB cap might get sliced for all users, not just iPhone users, in order to accommodate all new tethering plan customers (bandwidth demand).
Initial connection through iTunes? (not sure if this is every time you connect, or just for initial setup)
You’ll want to disable auto-updates for everything, so as to not go over usage limitations.
Will be +$30/month, new iPhone plans may be rolled out with tethering rolled in. Do not pro-rate tethering/bandwidth, it can become a nightmare, instead wait until new billing cycle.
For unlimited bandwidth, AT&T will tell you to get a wireless PC card.
No idea on a launch date.
At least they are developing this with Apple, so hopefully, this update will come in the form of a downloadable app from iTunes that will then be rolled out globally. [via macblogz]
Rumour has it that the iPhone update we’ve been talking about for a while now, is slated to drop on the 22nd of November. To recap, iPhone 2.2 is the version with:
The iPhone headphone socket has a little contact switch inside it that tells the iPhone to switch from external audio to headphones audio when plugged in. Sometimes this can get some dust or fluff underneath the contact and the iPhone or iPhone 3G can get jammed in headphones mode.
To cure this, one suggestion from Apple Technicians is to insert and retract the headphone jack a few times to dislodge the dust or fluff and clear the contacts in the iPhone.
Be gentle, you don’t want to break your iPhone or Headphones.
DISCLAIMER: We accept no responsibility if your big strong hands break your iPhone in the process.
Independent developer Bas Tossings has released a charming new iPhone game called Loopy Laboratory. While it’s not entirely perfect, after playing too many half-finished games and glorified tech demos, it was refreshing to finally see a game with some depth and character. One iTunes reviewer has described this as a remake of Chip’s Challenge/Tile World which it does seem to resemble though the developer says he was inspired by a number of older puzzle games which came together for this project.
The gameplay video shows a few of the early levels (3, 6, 7) and a later level (31). Note that the conveyor belt does not video tape well (grey moving walkway). [toucharcade]
Black Mamba Racer is a $3.99 2D overhead racer in which you skid and slide your way around 25 racing mission across 9 different tracks. While the graphics may look primitive, the gameplay is surprisingly fun and challenging. iTunes App Store
