Yea i think the battery lufe got bader, also with the 3gs
June 26th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
While the jury i still out on mine, my partner noticed a marked difference after 3.0. Apple’s geniuses were quite helpful on the issue when she dropped by our local store, replacing her existing phone without much fuss.
June 26th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
My battery was going down without even using the phone. Our local iPhone guru (a 14 year old student at our school) had me reboot and everything has been fine since. Apparently with the download of the new OS it left the opportunity for some Apps not to shut down and operate in the background w/o detection. Once I rebooted it took away that opportunity.
June 27th, 2009 at 5:27 am
Absolutely worse. Probably draining as bad as 3 times as fast.
June 27th, 2009 at 7:30 am
My battery is awful now I have to charge it 2-3 times a day, not only that it get hot very quickly
June 27th, 2009 at 9:00 am
@ Mr. E.
Exactly the same here.

Guys, we are meeting with Apple Genius today to see if we can talk techie with them and figure out what the issue is.
We too, are having to charge our phone by 4pm in the arvo, which is just unacceptable!
June 27th, 2009 at 7:58 pm
yes, I have to recharge my battery every day in afternoon and it gets hoz. I just bought the latest model and am new to iPhone. Diaappointed about short battery life !
June 27th, 2009 at 10:59 pm
I agree. My 3G battery life was better. One time it did get hot. I unplug at 6 am and by 4 pm, I’m at 50%, and that’s after maybe 10 mins of talk time, 5 mins of safari, and a half dozen texts.
July 1st, 2009 at 8:07 am
OMG! I used to get 48096 hours with my old Iphone Original. I am lucky to get 18 hours now. I have to do something…and quick!
July 1st, 2009 at 8:08 am
Note TYPO on above: should have read 48 – 96 hours, NOT 48096!
July 1st, 2009 at 10:07 am
How do you reboot?
July 7th, 2009 at 6:25 pm
My iphone also runs out of bat quickly. I try to go on airplane mode from 1am until 7am and it helps a bit. But less than 24h is not acceptable. I also rebooted but still running about 24h or less.
July 7th, 2009 at 6:26 pm
I rebooted going off, waiting 20min to decrease temperature and going on again
July 8th, 2009 at 7:13 pm
Was having this problem my self but then i turned off the push notification feature from settings and everything is fine since then. So if you are having quick battery drainage or/and iphone getting hot without even using much then i suggest you also try this.
Btw, to further improve battery, turn of Wifi when not using it

Am having this problem too. Having read the previous entry I’m giving that a try. Fingers Crossed!
July 11th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
YES MY BATTERY DIES QUICKER AND I CANNOT FIGURE OUT WHY! FIX THIS PLEASE!
July 12th, 2009 at 1:09 am
My 3G battery was fully charged, phone not used, and had to recharge after 6 hours.
July 14th, 2009 at 3:48 am
same problem, but it only happends to me when i put the at&t sims card, every min a % of the battery runs out(when the sims is on the iphone)and when i try to use it well it drains even quicker, but when i dont have the sims card in the iphone(mines the 3g),it runs great no bat problems and nothing…also im in 3.0 firmware, ive tried everything like reboothing, turning of wifi, etc.
help me please
my email is warlock_4000@yahoo.com
send me an email(if you think you can help me out)
July 23rd, 2009 at 2:40 pm
Yes I find the battery runs down more quickly with the 3.0 software/firmware. I use one of the supplementary batteries which doubles as a case and that seems to run down faster too. I keep all extraneous radios turned off and yet find the battery life unacceptable. Hope Apple can do something in the coming update to the 3.0 software.
July 24th, 2009 at 6:16 am
I manage to use my iPhone for 3-4 days, by taking care of disabling/enabling 3g/wifi/bluetooth only when needed(e.g. during the morning in the office I dont need any of them). Brightness control might also be reduced at night, if battery is really know. Btw, do u know any app that allows to manage something such energy profiles? Regards, Salva.
July 27th, 2009 at 6:23 pm
I took the iphone 3Gs back to Apple store because of the same problem….battery discharging to fast and phone getting warm. A technician checked the phone and according to him “it is normal”. I am not satisfied with “his findings”. Now what??
August 5th, 2009 at 8:17 am
yes its an issue. it has made me keep it plugged in all day and only unplug it when i go outside!
August 11th, 2009 at 7:52 pm
my iphone lasted about 12 hours but ever since there was an update for the 3.0 a couple of days ago it only last's about 6-9 hours is this just me?
August 11th, 2009 at 7:52 pm

August 15th, 2009 at 1:29 am
Yes, iPhone battery drains too quickly, a good phone with dumb bad battery life. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
August 18th, 2009 at 7:49 am
I am having the same problem, its awful. Full charge every night, unplug about 06:30 and by 15:45 (as I type) we are about to hit 20% remaining. I've hardly used it all day, after from the email sync'ing every 60 minutes. Never had this problem before.
I've had to puchase a Mophie case with build in battery to keep me going but after using that to get it almost up to 100%, its very hot and starts draining as quickly as it can! Awful, I can't handle this! Does 3.0.1 fix this?
August 19th, 2009 at 9:02 am
Some wrote on Disqus that if the battery is going down fast, you should must have a way of rebooting the iphone and this may just do the trick, to reduce that rate at which the battery drains. So, with my iphone which has a programme called “Cydia” using it I managed to download a small programme called “Power tools” this allows me to reboot my phone. And guess what!, it solved the problem of fast draining iphone battery. At least I can go for 2 days b4 recharging. Try it.
August 27th, 2009 at 9:08 pm
i charged my iphone 3GS in at about 12:00 to 100% and it was off for 10 hrs and when i turn it back on it was 95%. It seems as if without doing anything the battery life just goes down. But what i have found out is that if you keap your iphone is like a warm place during the night, like a Sock or under your pillow, The battery will almost remain the same.
August 30th, 2009 at 6:15 pm
My phone currently dies with in 4 hours.. it's only started happening in the last week!!
and I have done NOTHING… i've reseted firm where done all the tips and tricks… but usage and standby are close to the same number .. maybe differing by 20min… so it implies the even when iphone in stand by something is happening even though nothing actually is… it's sooo frustrating.
apart from new battery at $80 has anyone else got this resolved… and why should we have to pay for the battery
August 31st, 2009 at 12:21 am
Mine was doing fine in Australia with a virginmobile sim. Then came to UK and used an O2 sim and battery gets from 100% to 50% in about 2 hours on standby.
Noticed Warlock is having issue when using at&t sim
WTF is going on, and why would different sims affect battery life?
September 2nd, 2009 at 1:20 pm
I just got the new 3GS here in Brazil, and the battery is lasting less than 24h even with everything turned off, I even tried to turn the phone off, and even like that the battery was going down! When are they gonna solve this issue?
September 4th, 2009 at 8:13 am
No help. But I am having the same issue. Started a week or two ago. Nohing has changes in the way I use the phone or the apps installed. A full charge used to last almost two full days. Now a full charge lasts 4 hours max.
September 4th, 2009 at 10:57 am
I have purchased the Iphone 3Gs 32GB thinking it's going to be better than the 3g 16gb, i thought wrong.
Battery discharge on StandBy mode by 4 hours maximum.
Tried every single step from HardRest to upgrade, battery charging techniques till deactivating every single feature, bluetooth, WIFI, Push. still the same result
Installed new features: (memory info) and free some memory, it only little.
in addition i installed BatterLog: to keep log of how long batter excately stays it shows that it stays excately 4 hours only on standby, (Standby = only GSM no use of any other application).
I'm positive now that it's manifacturer defect item, either from software or Hardware.
Apple needs to do something for us who paid nearly $1000 for phone that can not be used for more than 4 hours.
If i paid US$ 50 on chinese duplicated mobile i can use it for 48 hours, what about US$ 1000 device.
Apple we supported all your products dont let us down since you have been quite about this issue not even accepting to call it a factory problem.
September 5th, 2009 at 12:54 am
Bought a new iPhone 3gs 2 days ago. It charged all of last night and I unplugged it at 7am to time the battery. In the past 2 hours and 51 minutes it has droppe to 27%. Sorry 26% now. It dropped 1% while I typed.
September 5th, 2009 at 9:15 am
hmm rebooting my iphone seems solving the problem, before that my iphone battery always drain pretty quick, one of the worst case is only in 2 hours. But then I decided to reboot it every time after I install an app or after using an app, especially games. Well now it's seems much better, my 3gs could stay on for a day now, even after heavy use of 3g gprs, watching movie or playing 3d games without a single charge. The only downside is I have to reboot it over and over, wish there is better choice though, but this will be fine for a moment.
September 5th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
can u plz tell me how to get cydia where do i go
please help me out
September 7th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
mine is dying ridiculously quick too. it only started a few days ago & none of my settings were changed.
also, it's really hard to unlock now. i have to press the home button or the top button repetitively to get it to show the 'slide to unlock' screen. i thought it maybe was a problem with the button itself, but it's not because if i'm already using the phone & i press the home button, it goes back easily.
this is really annoying.
September 7th, 2009 at 1:36 pm
oh, and i have already rebooted it and reset all the previous setting just as an attempt to try anything.
nothing has helped mine.
September 9th, 2009 at 2:10 am
Well i had the similar issues, on FW 3.0.1 and i fully erased and re-installed 3.0, the phone was far better it took 2 days for the fone to get fully discharged. After this I installed some applications which were huge in size like 75MB and rest, it has started again the same problem of discharging quickly about 4 hrs it is one without taking calls or playing games…
What is this issue …… with the battery?
September 12th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
Yes, this is an issue for me! 3.1.1 is better, but can't update my iPhone because I want to keep the jailbreak.
September 12th, 2009 at 8:49 pm
Yes, 3.0 is slower, but has a lot of new features.
September 13th, 2009 at 7:18 am
I just updated from 2.2.1 to 3.0.1 a couple of days ago and i am just outraged at the battery life. Its common knowledge now that u have to restore ur iphone after a couple of months if you have it jailbroken and I was reluctant to update to the newest firmware after having 2.2.1 for so long. I rlly didnt expect the dramatic change in battery life. I can relate to most of the above comments whereby the life is just sucked from the phone even on standby. Thats rlly frustrating. Even after having the phone sit in my tracksuit bottom pants for an hr it starts to almost burn my leg. There clearly is some process that is backgrounded on the phone that shudnt be. In the space of writing this message Ive lost 1% of battery life. Charging the phone every 2-3 hrs is just fukin ridiculous. Ive no choice but to revert back to 2.2.1 where it was more stable. Apple are a pack of bastards!! Cant believe they ommited the mms feature for 2g. Lousy miserable wankers
September 16th, 2009 at 11:15 am
Brov how did u revert back to 2.2.1?
September 16th, 2009 at 11:16 am

September 16th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
We should get a new battery with better performance …. But paid by App. We should not be paying for something that it is supposed to have warranty. Apple is silent about this. Do u know if there has been a complaint submitted to the Media & published?!
September 19th, 2009 at 2:09 am
Stop downgrading the firmware. The problem is only with notifications that are remade in 3.x.x firmware. 2.2.1 and versions before have no problems with battery because of different implementation of this module. Many apps are trying to turn on the notifications for them even when the apps are not running. Just go to settings and turn the notifications of for everything and things will come back to normal. Battery will last the same time as it was in 2.2.1… there is no reason for downgrading whole firmware when it is all only about one module that can be shut down.
September 21st, 2009 at 8:57 am
Merely turning off notifications just doesn't work. Not for me at least. Iphone 3GS, with 3.0 jbken.

October 10th, 2009 at 2:37 am
Hey, have you managed to solve this problem? If so could you please tell me how as I'm facing the same issue…
Thanks
October 12th, 2009 at 2:30 pm
My phone has been getting warm and randomly shutting off – very annoying. Mostly because I don't know it has shut off until I go to use the phone. The battery is dying MUCH faster. For example today I had 2 short calls, no other usage and battery drained 100% by end of day. That was on a full charge.
We don't have any Geniuses here (BTW I hate that title especially with such issues). The closest is a 3 hour drive, ALSO annoying!!!! If your going to offer a phone exclusively you should have reps who can handle issues with the phone. You sell it here, service it here!
October 30th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
3GS 3.1.2firmware. I jailbroke my iphone 2 weeks ago (got it 2 and half months ago) and now started noticing battery life decrease. At 1:20am it was 88%, at 8:20am it was 79%. So I lost nearly 10% in 7 hours of sleep mode. I used to lose about 4% before jailbreak.
I'm going to monitor this tonight too and if it's the same, I'll restore my phone to default factory and re-install all of my apps (150 non jail broken free itunes apps) AGAIN. I forgot to do a restore before jailbreaking and did one after. I guess you can only restore to latest backup (no backup history in stupid iTunes).
Jailbroke using Blackra1n and only have Cydia/Installous/Categories/and a few games/apps I downloaded through installous + all my free iTunes apps (about 150) and yes I have no room for moer icons so that's the main reason i did jailbreak.
I gotta say, I'm not entirely happy about the jailbreak. I don't have time to keep fixing the phone. I need it to just work. Things are laggy after jailbreak and sometimes have to reboot manually to make something work. It's almost not worth the free cracked apps. I'll keep you updated.

So — it is not only me that has the problem of the battery draining quicker since a few weeks ago! Living in hope that a solution will be found quick sot hat I can enjoy my i phone once again.

I was having the same issues as all of you. I have a 3G 16gb, running on a 3.1.2 Jailbroken and unlocked for TMobile. I just bought the phone off of someone 2 weeks ago and the battery dies 100% faster than any other battery I've ever had. So i came to this and I listened to what Propsard wrote and thankfully it worked. I went to Cydia and downloaded PowerTool and it works 100% better now. Thank you Jesus, cuz that was getting annoying. I would have to charge it all night long, all day at my desk at work, and in my car while driving….tooo frustrating. So if your is jailbroken, give it a try. Best of luck.
November 16th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
How can an app called PowerTools which has the function of reeboting the device, effect the iphones batteri life.
Does not make any sence. Can someone explain this?!
December 10th, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Same problem here since i upgraded to 2.2.1 on my original iphone 2g on 1.1.1. Trust me ive tried everything to fix this to no avail. Im now on 3.0 and the problem remains. One thing i know for a fact is that this is a calibration issue. I have two independent apps telling me that the battery is at 99% and still charging while the lockscreen battery is glowing and the battery icon suggests its full. Leaving the phone to charge until the app (system) tells me it is at 100% helps a bit in the sense that i now can go a full day with the phone at moderate use. By comparison, before the 2.2.1 upgrade i could go 3 days with one full charge and heavy use. Not a solution but it made my ilife a little better; can i get my new 3gs now please : ))
December 11th, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Yes indeed. I got my phone about 2 months ago and each update, seems like the battery life lessens
January 5th, 2010 at 3:29 am
Bought my very first iPhone a few days ago. 3Gs 16gb
Battery sucks, big time.
Yesterday, fully charged at 2pm. Left the house. Used Maps and Safari for about 20 mins total, did not take or make a single call, or text message, didnt play any music or videos.
At 6pm battery was down to 28% !!! That is terrible.
So, thought i'd see what difference settings make.
Fully charged phone last night.
Turned it off completely (not sleep mode). Turned it on at 8.30am today, battery life at 100% – so battery is holding its charge.
Next:-
Turned off 3G
Turned off wireless
Turned off all notifications
Tuned off Auto Brightness
I will report back later on and let you know whether the above helped. If it did, I will enable one thing at a time, each day, until I find the service that is killing the battery.
I suspect that GPS is constantly running in the background, regardless of your chosen settings. Possibly for security/tracking/terrorism/fraud reasons.
January 6th, 2010 at 12:50 am
Ok, so 24 hours later …..
Usage page is showing:-
1 day 0 hours standby
4 hours 29 minutes usage
So, the actual usage is included in the 'standby' figure.
Battery is showing:- 21%.
Yesterday day I was out and about and used Safari, Maps for about 20 mins total. Each and every time I turned the 3G on and off again after use.
Yesterday evening I went online a few times, checked mail, etc. Each and every time I turned the WiFi on and off again after each use.
Only made one call, and received one text.
Last night I left the phone on, but in sleep mode with an alarm set for 8am.
So turning everything off, certainly improved things, but jeeez, 24 hours standby using no services is just not good enough.
The times I noticed the major drains was each time I used WiFi.
I'm going to give it a couple of months, see if theres any action by iPhone, if not i'll be returning my very 1st (and last) iPhone.

…
January 6th, 2010 at 1:58 am
Hey Boston Green….
ok firstly, great comments!
secondly, being a developer and fool at the same time, I've gone through 11 iPhones in the past 12 months, and what you are experiencing is not uncommon HOWEVER, it is cureable.
Apple know about this problem, and they even have a semi-secret app that they install to diagnose your iPhone if you go to the genius bar.
I'll run through your points, and then tell you what the solution was for me.
Firstly 3G, Safari, and GPS.
GPS generally will stay on, especially if you are taking lots of photos with the 3GS as its geotargetting embeds in your photos for later usage. However I personally have not found this to significantly do major damage to the battery… UNLESS…
you have a poor signal. In my experience, the battery drains RIDICULOUSLY fast when switching between 2G and 3G and when you have no signal, I'm not sure if its like the older nokias which poll the cell towers heaps more when the signal is lower than 50% but it certainly looks like it is.
I personally leave WiFi turned on (but not attempting to connect to every network, only my home and office networks), and i whilst there is a marginally battery depletion, its really nothing too noticeable. The only bummer with being in Wi-Fi for me, is that Push email defaults back to Fetch email. I'm not sure if this is a bug or not, but I live with it.
Today I left for work at 10am with a full charge, I've since been on the phone for possibly 90 mins, sent over 30 SMS', and 3 videos which I have uploaded to the net via 3G, I get around 50 emails a day, and have probably surfed and played games whilst sitting on the toilet for about 30 mins. My Battery now 12 hours later is at 53%.
I personally think thats classed as 'heavy' usage, and to only deplete by half is good by iPhone standards.
As I said at the beginning, Apple are aware of batteries being faulty, and if you complain to them via the Genius Bar they will replace it. (they did with me, and I'm a happy customer again).
However, if you really need a phone that can stay on (in standby) for more than a couple of days, you'll need to opt for a phone with far less features, and leave the smartphone arena, and go for something like a Blackberry.
I hope that helps somewhat!
All the best.
January 6th, 2010 at 2:17 am
Thanks, i'll certainly investigate the Genius Bar, see what this diagnosis app you mentioned shows up.
I just completely drained the phone, the last 20% going on utube for the last 1.5hrs.
Gotta say though, I don't accept your comment on leaving the smartphone arena if I want a phone that lasts more than a day on standby. My other phone, a nokia N70, appx 7 years old, still lasts appx 6 days on standby and still 2 days with lots of call usage, all with the original batter !
The N70 is ancient. The iPhone 3gs isnt.
I do expect the iPhone or any smartphone to last longer than 24 hours on standby with ALL features turned off and only 1 call and 1 text made (Nokia manage it, quite easily).
The phone is currently on charge, i'll leave it as is until its fully charged, then hit the genius bar and see whats what.
Thanks
January 6th, 2010 at 2:32 am
I guess when I say smart phone, I mean 'large screen, touch screen, current generation…'
its a shame that older mobiles with 'nearly' as many features are outshining new ones with battery life!!!
January 6th, 2010 at 4:07 am
Yeah, I think generally technology is being held back by problems supplying/storing enough power.
Bring on the little nukeium battery !!!
Anyway, back to stuff. Can't seem to find what you mean on the genius bar.
The itunes Genius is just suggesting mixes.
The iPhone genius tab in the itunes app just lists loads more apps.
Can't find what you mean by reporting a fault via genius bar either.
Please elaborate, thanks.
January 6th, 2010 at 4:12 am
sorry my mistake…
you actually need to go here
http://www.apple.com/retail/
find your nearest store, and actually book an appointment to go in to the store… the Apple Genius (tech nerds) will help you face to face…
(not to be confused with the iTunes Genius mix thingy… lol..
January 6th, 2010 at 4:34 am
Ahhhhh, gotcha.
Thanks

January 17th, 2010 at 5:37 pm
I didn't charge my iphone last night since the battery looked fully charged. Was playing with the internet features the whole day today. Went to my Cousin's and decided to visit Borders.com to order a used DVD. Just when I got to the payment page, I went to grab my wallet when the iPhone screen suddenly shuts off.
Shocked, I pressed the home button to wake it up. Nothing. I ended holding down the power button and to my horror, the screen shows the battery completely drained. I was so upset. =(
First time this ever happened to me. It's so incredibly annoying.
January 19th, 2010 at 3:05 pm
i think cuz of that one cyidia thing -.-
January 19th, 2010 at 3:10 pm
did u download that one app that call ermm cyidia or suffin like that
January 21st, 2010 at 9:45 pm
I updated about a week ago and immediately started having problems. The first thing I noticed was problems with WiFi. It showed I was connected but would not allow me in the internet. If I turned off WiFi it worked perfectly. Next I noticed my battery dropping 1% a minute and I wasn't doing anything. Next my iPhone restarted by itself and then locked up at the white apple logo. I had a hard time getting it to restore but finally did. Battery life and WiFi still having major issues. I have to recharge twice a day whereas before only once. Today I had 42min of usage and 17hrs of standby and had to recharge. What happened to 300hrs on standby??
February 2nd, 2010 at 11:57 am
yup i get a max of 4 hours usage and 16 hours standby which i suppose is better than what alot of you are seeing here but it most definately does not match what their specs on the website say….i do understand there are certain conditions why they met those specs but i would expect to see at least half of what they claim…
February 2nd, 2010 at 4:44 pm
I've been noticing a similar problem over the last couple of days. My iPhone 3GS battery is draining way too fast, even if i haven't used it. I've had to charge it the last 2 nights and also have had it on charge while at work during the day. Its already down to 38% after only being used once very briefly.
I've also noticed that it's not showing my usual Telstra 3G network (in Australia), but instead showing Telstra E – am wondering whether this has anything to do with it, and is there anyway to fix it?
February 4th, 2010 at 9:06 pm
I have a 3GS version 3.0.1. I've been using my phone for 4 months without any problems and just a few days ago I experience the unusual battery drain. Did every possible tweak but to no avail. Finally I was able to normalize the phone by removing the sim last night. The phone discharged only 4% overnight, which is normal. When I inserted the sim, it began draining once again

I started having similar issues 3 days ago with my original iPhone that I purchased two and a half years ago; where I charge it overnight and by 5 PM of no phone calls, 40 minutes of IPOD and a few texts I am out of power. I've also noticed that my battery gets very hot as well.

you guys know wat i think, apple spent millions of dollars making the software and custom hardware for it but not one of the researcher stepped up and said “you reckon we should increase the battery life for it?”
dont u guys think so!!!!!
wen i saw this kid nintendo ds, he waz playing games on it for 1 days staight, on full brightness, and at the end of the day, the battery indicator waz still full. i waz like, “wat the F***K.

Well, bought my 3gs about 6 weeks ago.
I posted my comments on its battery life earlier in the thread.
Eagerly did the 3.1.3 update offered up on Thursday/Friday, hoping it would fix the battery issues. Noticed a slightly better life, but no where near enought to make me happy.
Got fed up with the crappy battery life so went into the o2 shop to complain. Got the 'your outside the 30 days return policy' speech, (I wasnt in the mood to argue the UK trading laws with the spotty faced little boy), and was told I could have the handset sent off to apple for investigation, or go in to an apple service centre in person.
So, travelled 20 or so miles to Brighton and entered the Apple service centre. Immediately saw the screen listed the appointment queue, including a line reading no more appointments available.
Appointment ?? the little shelf stacker at o2 failed to mention booking an appointment.
An apple guy asked me if he could help, I explained the situation and asked to book an appointment, which he did for another day, but then he said 'hang on, let me see if someone can't help you out'
Hmmm, slightly gobsmacked, and a bit suspicious that I was just about to get another 20 mins of my time wasted only to be told, yeah, you need an appointment to look at that particular problem.
How wrong I was.
Within about 10 mins the MANAGER appeared, I explained the problem, explained i'm not a knob and had tried all the various power saving and battery conditioning tips. He was cool about that, accepted that I knew what I was talking about and agreed to plug the handset into their laptop to do some analysis.
At this point I had been out of my car for 1 hr and 4 mins. The phone was 100% on leaving the car. Apart from turning the home screen on, absolutely no usuage, everything turned off and the battery was down to 97%.
The manager plugged it into his laptop diagnostics and it displayed batter was at 84% !! So it had actually lost more charge than the phone was displaying. Despite the 1.3.3 update which supposedly specifically addressed a problem of misrepresented battery levels.
Instantly the Manager said he's swap for a new handset.
I have to say, the Manager and the other guy at Apple in Brighton (UK) were exceptional, i'm a bit agressive when it comes to shops and customer service, but they handled me well and sorted me out (without an appointment). Full marks to Apple on that score.
However, the new handset seems to be no different than the old one, still the same crappy battery life !!

I had a jailbroken iPhone 3G 16GB, and it ran out of battery like from 100% in 5 hours down to 17%. Didn't use it at all, just to check the time. So I took it back to the apple shop, after about half an hour of them taking it to the back and bringing new people out, they gave me a new one, didn't bother jailbreaking and i wanted to see how long the battery lasts. it only lasted about 5 hours longer till it was in the same position. I turned off push notifications for the moment to see if it works.

When you returned your iPhone to the Apple shop, was is still Jailbroken or did you restore it beforehand?
February 27th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
I unjailbroke it obviously, I don't think any person in their right mind would take it back jailbroken lol

I have a jailbroken iphone… The last couple of days it has been draining the battery within a few hours and it got me searching for a solution. I had a suspicion it had to do with the SIM card/network am using since recently I had traveled to Kenya and it was working just fine with there (atleast 12hrs usage time). So when I got to this website and a few other people had the same concern I was convinced this might be the issue. I switched off the phone, took off the SIM card and turned it on again without the SIM. Then I turned it off and reinserted the SIM and turned it back on. I have noticed a change in battery usage.. will monitor it and get back to see if it worked.

Hey there….i´m from colombia , i have a 2g iphone and i´m having the same fu”#$ing problem…my iphone´s battery is draining extremely faster, i fully charged the battery, then unplugged it and it starts consuming like 1% every 10 minutes, thast stupid. I´ve noticed that this thing wasn´t happening before i changed the sim card. At the beggining my iphone worked properly but after i switched my sim card from one telecomunication enterprise to another one from other enterprise it started presentig this severe problem. When im using the new sim it goes rarely warm when i charge it, but when i use it without sim the battery usage goes back to normal…i supose it is something related to the sim stuff…..i still don´t have way to fix this….i hope someone help me

Its gotten to this: I generally have my iPhone connected to a power source. Those rare times when I use it while on battery power, I consider a bonus. Of course, it should be the other way around. I've had my phone replaced by Apple for the rapid discharge problem with only marginal improvement. Most of us can live with this because we are usually near a powered socket (in the office, home or car) but it cannot be considered a truly mobile device. Compared with the average non-smart mobile phone it is an energy hog. But I still favor it because of all the things it does. I'm sure Apple will have a fix for this, eventually.

I had a phone replaced as it kept dying on me (no warning) – and now over the last 2 days I have had the battery discharge suddenly red low sign and I have hardly used it…reading posts on the www makes it seems that it is more than an isolated problem…more likely there has been some rotten apples in the huge production runs and because they have such high volumes of sales they (the Apple management) couldn't give a fig let alone an apple. Its a bit like having a great car but no petrol here we have a great phone that has no reliable mobile power — hope someone shakes them out of the torpour of large sales volumes (like being stoned) and they apply the creative wizardry that exists within to a reliable powerful battery.

A totally yes
My Iphone 2g is draining battery like OM*G
I text messaging for 5 min consume me for 15 % battery
Standby mode for 1 night consume for like 20 % battery .
OS 3.0 is definitely a no no to update even thou it gives alot of feature but this battery problem seems to not affect some other people i wondering why …

You have to be kidding me. You can't seriously compare a DS to a touch or iPhone. They are leagues apart in terms of processor power and display capability. Of COURSE that will affect battery life. My question for you though is this: Do you think apple is the sole company that has battery life issues? You are sadly mistaken if so. They aren't even in battery research or manufacturing. Other, 3rd party companies do that work, so blame them. Or better yet, blame the scientists who haven't met your stringent quality standards. I am sure a poorly worded internet email rant will renew their enthusiasm – after all, who wouldn't want to make Complainy McComplainerton happy?

Hi Jay,
Has this worked for you since you took off your sim card and reinserted it back again? I have a jailbroken phone too and recently the battery started dying so quickly, and I dont know what to do so i wanted to know if this method has worked out for you..
Thanks

hi,
i'm a kid to this kinda forums. but i'm a die hard fan of Apple products(iPhone). I had a jailbroken iPhone 3G 8GB with OS3.0 and the battery was getting drained recently.
Some one posted in some other website by following this below tip it may increase your battery life.
- Reset your settings. Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset All Settings.
- Hard Reset your iPhone. Press and hold the home button and the power button together until the silver apple logo is shown on screen [First the "Slide to Power Off" message will appear and then the screen will go blank and then the apple logo will appear]. Once the apple logo appears you can release the buttons
- Disable Push for your accounts. To disable Push you need to go to Settings -> Mail,Contacts,Calendars -> Fetch New Data. Turn Push off and set the fetch interval to whatever you desire.
Will this work??
Please Help me.
Thanks,
S

Typical Apple crap. When will Apple actually grow up to be a real consumer producing company. Steve Jobs – you should be ashamed. This iphone’s a piece of crap. ATT can stick this right up thier backdoor.
We dont need all the crappy aps either. Perfect way to allow identity theft! There is no security on the iphone.
Give me my blackberry back. At least the battery lasts a hell of a lot longer. We dont need all the

I jailbroke my iphone os 4.0.1. After jailbroke it was 100% charged and i can use it like 24hrs include call/standby/whatever and thats it good for me.But the hell started when i want to charge its like i can charge ut ti full 100%. When i unplug the battery drain like time sand and now i cant charge more then 30%.
I have jailbreaking quiet a lot since when iphone turn off due to no battery it will not charge at all or even green screen not showing it charge at all.
Btw is true removing sim card will charge more faster and with the 3g sim card it drain faster.
The battery only ok within 24hrs after everytime i jailbroke.

Since I upgraded to 4.0.1 I have periodically experienced the hot phone discharged battery problem. I have had to reboot the phone (3G) to stop it from overheating. Not sure why it does this. I can go from a full charge (like this morning) to less than half in under two hours with it just sitting in my pocket unused. I don’t get it. how do I revert back to a previous OS? Then I can go for days with no trouble whatsoever. It has done this three or four times over the lat three weeks.

I am not satisfied with my iPhone battery life. What a poor product.
What’s the use of having the wifi, bluetooth, push, and 3G in the phone if you have to turn it all off just to save battery life? I might just as well go back to my old Nokia phone. It has exceptional battery life.
Like most comments, Apple is keeping quite about this.
